RCC Slab Calculator: Stairs, Columns & Concrete PSI

An RCC slab calculator helps estimate roof concrete, but a house pour also includes staircases, columns and beam intersections that are easy to overlook. If you are planning a 5 marla concrete slab in Lahore or comparing steel quantities for a 1 kanal house in DHA, a useful estimate begins with the approved member dimensions—not a fixed allowance per plot. This guide explains how to measure slabs, stairs and house columns, use Calculate Simply’s material tools, and understand concrete strength in PSI and MPa. It also introduces Pakistani, American and selected European and Saudi standards. You will learn what an estimator can calculate, which assumptions affect material quantities, and which decisions must remain with your structural engineer and concrete supplier.

RCC roof slab calculator: measure the actual concrete

RCC usually means reinforced cement concrete in Pakistani house construction. Roof slabs transfer loads through the structural system; their thickness and reinforcement depend on the design. A calculator estimates quantities from those specified dimensions. It does not determine a safe span or approve a slab for a water tank, solar installation or additional floor.

A worked 5 marla concrete slab example

Suppose the drawings show a net rectangular slab area of 900 square feet and a thickness of 6 inches. This is a hypothetical measured area, not a standard covered area or thickness for a 5 marla house.

Concrete volume = 900 × (6 ÷ 12) = 450 CFT = approximately 12.743 m³ = 16.667 yd³.

Measure stair openings, shafts and other deductions from the drawings. Count beam volumes consistently: if the slab already includes the beam’s top portion, add only the downstand volume. Use the concrete volume calculator for rectangular dimensions, then enter the measured volume in the RCC slab material calculator.

Cement, sand and aggregate for a roof slab

For illustration, use 450 CFT, a dry-volume factor of 1.54, a nominal 1:2:4 ratio and 1.25 CFT per cement bag. These are editable template assumptions for ingredient estimating. They do not establish a concrete strength or an approved structural mix.

ItemCalculationBase quantity
Loose dry volume450 × 1.54693 CFT
Cement693 ÷ 7 ÷ 1.2579.2 bags
Sand693 × 2 ÷ 7198 CFT
Coarse aggregate693 × 4 ÷ 7396 CFT

Keep allowances separate from base quantities and record the bag mass, bag volume and batching assumptions. For delivered ready-mix, order the concrete volume plus a justified ordering allowance; do not multiply it by 1.54. For more detail, read our concrete and RCC materials guide.

RCC staircase concrete calculation

Separate the waist slab, triangular steps and landings. For a simple straight flight, measure the waist thickness perpendicular to the slope and use the sloping length:

  • Waist volume = flight width × sloping length × waist thickness.
  • Triangular step volume = number of treads × ½ × going × rise × flight width.
  • Landing volume = landing length × width × thickness.

As an arithmetic example, a 3.5 ft wide flight with a 12 ft sloping length and 0.5 ft waist thickness contains 21 CFT in the waist. Ten triangular treads with 0.9 ft going and 0.5 ft rise add 7.875 CFT. A separate 3.5 × 4 × 0.5 ft landing adds 7 CFT, giving 35.875 CFT before other members or allowances.

These component dimensions are illustrative, not a coordinated staircase layout or a recommendation for risers, treads or headroom. Check the actual geometry, supports and overlaps. The RCC staircase material calculator accepts the resulting volume; it does not automatically measure flights from a plan.

House columns and garage columns: quantity versus design

For a rectangular column, concrete volume equals width × depth × height. Four illustrative columns measuring 12 × 18 inches and 10 feet high contain 4 × 1 × 1.5 × 10 = 60 CFT. These dimensions show arithmetic only; they are not suitable-size recommendations.

Use the RCC column material calculator after checking the pour limits. Garage columns need particular attention when an open frontage changes the structural arrangement. Do not remove a column, widen a garage opening or reduce a column section based on a quantity calculator.

DHA house steel and 1 kanal house estimates

Searches such as “DHA house steel quantity” or “1 kanal house DHA concrete estimate” describe budgeting needs, but plot area alone cannot establish steel tonnage. Storeys, spans, soil conditions, seismic design, cantilevers and loading all affect the structural arrangement.

For projects in DHA Lahore, DHA Islamabad or Bahria Town Lahore and Islamabad, confirm the relevant authority or society’s approval process and the project’s structural documents. This article does not claim a particular society requires one universal slab PSI, column size or steel ratio.

The steel quantity calculator provides a preliminary estimate using an editable steel-volume percentage. Final steel procurement should follow the approved bar bending schedule, including laps, anchorage, bends and cutting requirements. Never treat an estimator’s percentage as minimum required reinforcement.

What PSI concrete strength is good for a slab?

There is no single slab PSI standard suitable for every house. Use the specified compressive strength, test age and specimen basis in the structural documents. The following figures are unit conversions, not recommended grades:

Strength in PSIApproximate MPaMeaning here
3,00020.7Conversion example only
3,50024.1Conversion example only
4,00027.6Conversion example only
5,00034.5Conversion example only

A higher number does not fix inadequate reinforcement, poor detailing or unsuitable supports. Exposure and durability requirements also matter. Ask whether the specified strength is cylinder- or cube-based; these test results are not interchangeable through a simple unit conversion. A nominal 1:2:4 mix does not guarantee 3,000 PSI or any other specified strength.

American and country construction standards

Standards below have different roles. Confirm the governing edition, local adoption, national provisions and contract requirements with the responsible designer. This is an orientation to official sources, not a design-compliance checklist.

Pakistan and the United States

PEC and ICC developed the Building Code of Pakistan 2021. Check the requirements applicable to your specific project and approving authority rather than assuming that one international edition applies everywhere.

In the US, ACI CODE-318 covers structural concrete design and detailing. ACI publishes a 2025 edition, but local adoption determines the governing code. ACI SPEC-301 concerns construction specifications. ASTM C94/C94M, C39/C39M and C143/C143M respectively address ready-mixed concrete, cylinder compressive testing and slump testing. Slump alone does not prove strength.

Italy, France and Sweden

Italy’s NTC decree of 17 January 2018 is a national structural reference; check subsequent amendments and applicable project rules. European Eurocode 2 addresses concrete structures. For French work, consult the applicable NF EN 1992 national provisions and AFNOR’s concrete specification references and French national complement, checking current editions.

For Sweden, consult Boverket’s current regulations. New rules replaced corresponding EKS provisions; Boverket states that the option to select the older rules during the transition ceased on 1 July 2026. Check project-specific transition arrangements rather than relying on an old EKS-only guide.

Saudi Arabia and Arabic-language projects

Saudi SBC 304 addresses concrete structures. Arabic-speaking countries do not share one building code. A Saudi requirement should not automatically be applied to Oman, the UAE or another jurisdiction. Confirm local requirements and the specified concrete performance.

Frequently asked questions

How much concrete is needed for a 5 marla roof slab?

Measure the approved slab area and thickness, deduct openings consistently and account for beams without double-counting. Plot size alone is insufficient. The hypothetical 900 sq ft × 6 in example contains 450 CFT.

Is 3,000 PSI enough for house slabs or garage columns?

That cannot be decided from plot size or member name. The engineer must specify the strength for the design, exposure and governing requirements. A PSI conversion table is not a grade recommendation.

Can I calculate staircase concrete from floor area alone?

No. Measure the waist slab using sloping length, then steps and landings as applicable. Check overlaps, supports and the actual stair geometry before entering the total volume.

Do DHA and Bahria Town houses use the same steel quantity?

There is no universal quantity determined by the development name. Use each house’s structural drawings and approved bar schedule, even when plot sizes are identical.
